A bag to give out or to give as a gift

Choosing a bag starts from how it will be used. When bags are given out at a trade fair or an event, compare the material, the fabric weight and the unit price. The options then are cotton bags and drawstring backpacks, which are also available in small batches.

When a bag with your own logo is given as a gift to staff or a customer, the size, the compartments and whether a laptop fits in are what matter. Options are in the Backpacks and Laptop bags groups. Sports bags and belt bags suit sports clubs, and the range also includes duffel bags and beach bags.

Cotton bag material and weight

The fabric weight tells how thick the fabric is. It is given in grams per square metre (g/m²), and the figure is usually in the name or description of the bag. For non-woven bags the weight is most often 80 g/m², for paper bags 90–115 g/m², for cotton bags 100–330 g/m² and for jute bags 240–360 g/m².

For large giveaway batches a light non-woven bag or a 100–140 g/m² cotton bag is suitable, for an everyday shopping bag a 150–220 g/m² cotton bag, and as a gift a thick 240–330 g/m² bag. The cotton can be regular, organic or recycled, and blends include, for example, 70% recycled cotton and 30% recycled polyester (rPET). The range also includes hemp bags, felt bags and foldable polyester bags. A weight table with example products is on the Cotton bags group page.

Size and handles

The most common cotton bag measures 38 x 42 cm, and A4 papers fit in it without folding. The length of the handles decides whether the bag is carried on the shoulder or in the hand: long handles are about 60–75 cm and short ones 30–40 cm. A 100 g/m² cotton bag of the same size is available, for example, with both 30 cm and 75 cm handles.

A bag with a gusset has a wide base: for example, in a 38 x 42 cm bag the base is 9 cm wide. Boxes and groceries fit in a gusseted bag better than in a flat one. A foldable bag folds small, for example to a size of 12 x 10 cm.

Logo on the bag

The price of a printed bag includes a one-colour print in one position, and the description of most products tells how it is done. On cotton bags the most common method is digital transfer print: the logo is first printed on film, from which it is transferred to the bag with heat. In screen printing the ink is pressed through a screen directly onto the fabric or paper. It is the method included in the price for paper bags and many umbrellas, for example.

For bags available from 10 pcs, the logo is made as a heat transfer when there are fewer than 100 pcs, and as a screen print in larger batches. The details of some bags also give the marking area, that is, the largest print area, for example 260 x 280 mm, and the details of many bags show the number of print positions. A second colour, a second print position and a larger print are priced in the quote. The methods are described in more detail on the Print methods page.

When the logo is printed large, for example on the side of the bag, a sharp logo file is needed, preferably in vector format. Instructions on file formats and colours are on the Logo and artwork page.

Backpacks and laptop bags

The size of a laptop bag is given in inches, which refers to the diagonal of the laptop screen. The Laptop bags group includes backpacks, bags and briefcases for laptops of 13–17.3 inches, and the most common sizes are 15 and 15.6 inches. The size of the laptop pocket is shown in the product name or details, and in many bags the pocket is padded.

The material is most often 600D or 300D polyester, and in many bags the polyester is recycled (rPET). The number before the letter D tells the thickness of the yarn: the larger the number, the thicker the yarn. Other backpacks are in the Backpacks group. It includes, for example, hiking and roll-top backpacks and backpacks in cabin luggage size, and some of them are ordered from 10 pcs.

Cooler bags, umbrellas and travel accessories

The size of cooler bags is given in litres. The smallest, 3-litre bags hold six 0.33-litre cans, and the largest is 37 litres. The insulation is usually foam, aluminium foil or both, and many bags have a PEVA plastic lining. Some cooler bags are backpacks.

Umbrellas range from 18 to 30 inches, and the diameter of an open umbrella is about 75–130 cm. A folding umbrella is about 22–25 cm long when closed. Most open automatically, and the fabric is almost always polyester. The logo is printed on one panel, that is, one section of the fabric, and other panels are priced in the quote.

Travel accessories include luggage tags, luggage scales, sleep masks and neck pillows. Some of them are sold without print, and the product page shows whether print is included in the price. Toiletry bags and cosmetic bags also suit travel, and they come, for example, in cotton, hemp fabric and recycled polyester (rPET).

Quantities and price

The minimum quantity for most bags is 50 pcs, but some cotton bags, drawstring backpacks and backpacks are available from 10 pcs. They suit a small need, for example for a club or a course. The minimum quantity is shown on the product card and the product page.

The price table on the product page shows unit prices at different quantities, excluding VAT. The prices include a one-colour print in one position and the setup cost. Because the setup cost is shared across all pieces, the unit price falls as the batch grows. The print for products ordered from 10 pcs is also included in the prices in the table.

According to the terms of delivery, a printed batch may be up to 10% larger or smaller than the quantity ordered, and the invoice is based on the quantity delivered. Take this into account if you need an exact number of bags for giving out.

Add the products to the quote basket and send the request. State the delivery date you want in the quote request. Before production you receive a print proof for approval. Production starts when the proof has been approved. The lead time for printed products is usually about 2 weeks from proof approval. The exact lead time is given in the quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good thickness for a cotton bag?

Thickness is described by the fabric weight in grams per square metre (g/m²). For giving out, an 80 g/m² non-woven bag or a light 100–140 g/m² cotton bag is suitable; for everyday use 150–220 g/m²; and as a gift a 240–330 g/m² cotton bag. Jute bags weigh 240–360 g/m².

Can bags be ordered in quantities under 50?

Yes. Some cotton bags, drawstring backpacks, backpacks, sports bags and toiletry bags can be ordered from 10 pcs, and a few sports bags, cooler backpacks and umbrellas are available from 25 pcs. The minimum quantity is shown on the product card and the product page.

How large a logo fits on a bag?

It depends on the bag and the print method. For bags available from 10 pcs, the price includes a heat transfer print up to A6 size for batches under 100 pcs, and a screen print up to A4 size from 100 pcs. State the size of logo you want in the quote request: a larger print is priced in the quote.

What is the difference between a cotton bag and a non-woven bag?

A cotton bag is made of woven fabric, and in our range its weight is 100–330 g/m². In non-woven fabric the fibres are bonded together without weaving, and the material is, for example, polypropylene (PP) or recycled polyester (rPET). A light non-woven bag, usually 80 g/m², suits large giveaway batches, and a thick cotton bag suits use as a shopping bag or a gift.

Does a 15.6-inch laptop fit in the backpack?

It does, if the laptop pocket of the backpack is made for a laptop of at least 15.6 inches. The size is shown in the product name or details. The Laptop bags group includes backpacks and bags for laptops of 13–17.3 inches, and dozens of them are made for a 15.6-inch or larger laptop.

Can a logo be printed on several panels of an umbrella?

Yes. The price includes a one-colour print on one panel, and additional panels are priced in the quote. The product details of many umbrellas show the number of print positions, and in the quote request it is worth stating which panels the logo goes on.
