Fabric weight and use

The thickness of a cotton bag is described by the weight of the fabric in grams per square metre (g/m²), and the figure is most often found in the product name or description. The higher the figure, the thicker and sturdier the fabric. Choose the weight according to how the bag will be used:

  • 80 g/m², non-woven: a light bag for large giveaway batches at trade fairs and events, for example SHOPPER. Tips for trade fairs can be found on the page Promotional products for trade fairs.
  • 90–115 g/m², paper: a bag for the shop, for trade fairs and for packing customer gifts, for example KELLY.
  • 100–140 g/m², thin cotton: a light bag for handing out, for example Knoll (105 g/m², from 10 pcs).
  • 150–220 g/m², medium-weight cotton: a reusable everyday bag, for example the gusseted Kato (180 g/m², from 10 pcs).
  • 240–330 g/m², thick cotton: a bag that keeps its shape, suitable as a gift, for example Bragi (330 g/m², 100 % recycled cotton, from 10 pcs).
  • 240–360 g/m², jute: a stiff bag for shopping and as a gift, for example SHANTI (360 g/m²).

The cotton bags are made of regular cotton, organic cotton and recycled cotton. The blends include, for example, 50 % cotton, 30 % recycled cotton and 20 % recycled polyester (rPET). The hemp bags are made of 200 g/m² hemp fabric. The exact material is shown in the product details.

The paper bags are made of kraft paper and have twisted handles. Their logo is applied as a screen print, and the minimum order quantity is 50 pcs. Smaller gift bags can be found in the group Gift bags.

Size, handles and models

The most common size is 38 x 42 cm, and bags of this size are available from 80 g/m² non-woven to 280 g/m² organic cotton. The description often states the handle length, for example 65 cm, or whether the handles are long or short. With long handles the bag can be carried on the shoulder. The gusset of a gusseted bag is, for example, 9 cm wide in the Kato and Kensal bags and 18 cm wide in the Bragi bag.

Foldable shopping bags fold into a small pouch, and they are available in polyester and light cotton. Drawstring backpack bags can be found in this group and in the group Drawstring bags.

The reflective cotton bag VISI TOTE is made of reflective 190D polyester and has long handles. SYROS is a drawstring bag made of reflective polyester (200 g/m²). These are reflective products, not safety reflectors: only a product that meets the requirements and has been type-tested may be called a safety reflector. Safety reflectors can be found in the group Safety reflectors.

Jute bags

The fabric weight of a jute bag is 240–360 g/m², and in many jute bags the inner surface is laminated. Jute is also used in combination bags: for example, in the HELSINQUE bag a 320 g/m² fabric is combined with a laminated jute base and sides. Jute bags with a logo are ordered from 50 pcs, and the print included in the price is most often a digital transfer print.

Cotton bag print and price

Prices are shown on the product page excluding VAT, and they include a one-colour print in one position and the setup cost. The print method included in the price is stated in the description of most bags. The most common method in this group is digital transfer print.

For bags available from 10 pcs, the logo on batches under 100 pcs is a heat transfer with a size of up to A6 (160 cm²). When 100 or more bags are ordered, the logo is applied as a screen print, and its size is up to A4. A second colour, a second side and a larger print are priced in the quote. The print methods are described in more detail on the page Print methods.

You can also add other products with the same logo to the same quote request, for example t-shirts or drawstring bags. State the delivery date you want in the quote request. Before production you will receive a proof to approve. Production starts once the proof has been approved. The lead time for printed products is usually about 2 weeks from proof approval.

Frequently asked questions

What does g/m² mean for a cotton bag?

The figure gives the weight of the fabric in grams per square metre, and a heavier fabric is thicker: a non-woven bag of 80 g/m² is thin and light, while a cotton bag of 330 g/m² is thick and sturdy. The bags in this group range from 80 to 360 g/m².

Can I order a cotton bag in a quantity of 10?

Yes. Some of the cotton and hemp bags can be ordered from 10 pcs, for example Knoll (105 g/m²), Kato (180 g/m²) and Bragi (330 g/m²). The minimum order quantity for other bags is 50 or 100 pcs, and it is shown on the product card and the product page.

Can a printed cotton bag be washed?

The washing instructions depend on the material of the bag and the print method, so ask about them in your quote request. Please also tell us if the bags will be washed often, as washing affects which print method is suitable.
