Pin types

  • Soft enamel: the design is die-struck into metal and the recesses are filled with enamel colour. The metal outlines stay raised, and the surface can be protected with clear epoxy.
  • Hard enamel: the design is made in the same way, but the surface is ground and polished flat and smooth.
  • Offset-printed: the image is printed onto metal in full-colour print and protected with epoxy. This method suits colour gradients, photographs and small text.
  • Die-struck and cast: the design shows as differences in height and metal surfaces without enamel colour. A cast pin can have three-dimensional shapes and cut-outs.
  • Spinning pin: a rotating part sits on top of the base, and a second image or text can be revealed beneath it.
  • PVC rubber patch: a patch cast from soft PVC rubber for workwear, bags and caps, usually 30–120 mm.

The production methods are also presented on the page Printing methods.

Material and colour

Depending on the model, the pin is made of iron, brass, copper, zinc alloy or stainless steel. The metal finish can be, for example, gold, silver, nickel, black nickel or antique finish. Enamel colours are matched to Pantone colours, and the usual size of an enamel pin is 20–30 mm.

How the order proceeds

The lead time for products made to order is usually about 4 weeks from proof approval. The pins are packed individually in a plastic bag, and a backing card is available for some models. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a soft enamel pin and a hard enamel pin?

In both, the design is die-struck into metal and the recesses are filled with enamel colour. In a soft enamel pin the metal outlines stay raised, so the surface feels textured to the touch. The surface of a hard enamel pin is ground and polished smooth. If the logo has colour gradients or a photograph, an offset-printed pin is a better choice.

What kind of fastening does a pin badge have?

Most pins have a butterfly clutch fastening. For enamel pins and the offset-printed pin you can also choose a magnet or a safety pin. A PVC rubber patch can be attached with hook-and-loop tape, sewn onto clothing, or fitted with a pin fastening or a magnet.
