Ballpoint pens

A ballpoint pen with your logo suits the office, customer service and handing out at trade fairs. The group includes plastic, aluminium, steel and bamboo ballpoint pens as well as a few rollerball pens. The details of many models give the writing length, usually 800 or 1,200 metres. The marking method depends on the body: on metal and bamboo pens the logo is usually engraved, on plastic pens it is printed. The minimum order quantity is 50 pcs for most models and usually 100 pcs for the others. The pen price on the product page is excluding VAT and includes a one-colour print in one position.

Ballpoint pens with engraving

When the pen body is aluminium, steel or bamboo, the logo is usually laser engraved and the engraving is included in the price. Because an engraved logo is in the surface of the pen and not a layer of ink on top of it, it does not wear off in use. On an aluminium pen the engraving usually shows as silver-coloured, according to the product details. On bamboo pens the shade of the engraving is not exactly the same on every pen, because the colour of bamboo varies.

An engraved metal pen suits a corporate gift. Some of the metal pens are delivered in their own packaging: a kraft paper box, a metal box, a padded gift box or a cork pouch. The steel ALEXA pen is one of those delivered in a cork pouch, and its writing length is 1,200 metres. More pens and pen pairs delivered in a gift box can be found in the Pen sets group.

Plastic pens for trade fairs

A plastic ballpoint pen suits large giveaway batches. Most plastic pens are made of ABS plastic, and there is a wide choice of colours: for example, the SLIM pen with a non-slip grip comes in 11 colours. In some models the body is made of recycled plastic, and its share is stated in the product details, for example "recycled PET (100% rPET)". The logo included in the price of plastic pens is applied as a pad print or UV print, and the methods are described on the Print methods page.

Writing length, tip and mechanism

The writing length tells you how many metres of line you can write with one refill. The most common writing lengths for the pens in this group are 800 and 1,200 metres. The tip is 1.0 mm in most models. A finer tip of 0.5–0.8 mm is found, for example, in rollerball pens and Fine tip refills.

The mechanism is most often a push button. Some pens are opened by twisting, and on rollerball pens the tip is protected by a cap. Blue ink is the most common, and black ink is found, for example, in most rollerball pens. A multicolour pen has three or four ink colours, and some models have a touchscreen tip.

Stilolinea pens

Stilolinea models such as Raja, S45 Total, Semyr, Ducal and Tethys are ordered from 100 pcs. Their product details give the refill model, and depending on the model the refill writes 3,000–6,500 metres. The S45 and Ducal models have an R295 refill, the Semyr models RT3 Jumbo and the Tethys models RT90 Fine tip.

The ink of these pens is described in the details as "Archival, ISO 12757-2". According to the product details, the country of origin is Italy. The body colours are listed on the product page of each model, and for example Raja Chrome comes in nine colours. Tethys models are also available as a 0.7 mm mechanical pencil in the Pencils group.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a ballpoint pen, a rollerball pen and a gel pen?

The ballpoint pens in this group usually have a 1.0 mm tip and a writing length of 800–1,200 metres. Rollerball and gel pens have a finer tip, 0.5–0.7 mm, and a shorter writing length, 400–500 metres. Many of them are closed with a cap, whereas a ballpoint pen is usually opened with a push button or by twisting.

What does the refill marking tell you?

The marking gives the refill model first, then the tip width and the writing length: R295, 1.0 mm, 3,000 m means an R295 refill with a 1.0 mm tip and a writing length of 3,000 metres. The Raja models list as their refill either the plastic-tipped RT3 Jumbo (1.0 mm, 3,500 m) or the metal-tipped RT90 Fine tip (0.8 mm, 6,500 m), so state in your quote request which refill you want.

Which pen is suitable for documents?

Choose a model whose ink is described in the product details as "Archival, ISO 12757-2", for example a Stilolinea pen. ISO 12757-2 is the part of the ballpoint pen and refill standard that covers document use.
